0:00What charges can a shipment attract?
0:02A lot more than just duty.
0:05A typical shipment can attract customs duty,
0:09value-added tax or a general sales tax,
0:13and excise duty on specific categories such as alcohol, tobacco
0:17or vehicles.
0:19It can also attract community or regional levies,
0:23where a trade bloc funds itself that way, inspection or conformity fees,
0:28and administrative or processing fees charged by customs or by
0:34the single-window system.
0:37Not every charge applies to every product.
0:40But assuming a shipment carries only duty is the single most common landed-cost
0:45mistake new importers make.
0:48So before you price anything, list every charge.
