1:01Alibaba scams follow a few patterns.
1:04The deposit disappears:
1:06a supplier quotes an attractive price,
1:08asks for a wire transfer outside the platform to start production,
1:13then goes silent once paid.
1:16The bait and switch:
1:18a perfect sample is followed by bulk goods of inferior quality,
1:22and a refusal to refund.
1:24The fake factory front:
1:26a trading company uses stolen photos and borrowed certifications to pose as the
1:32manufacturer.
1:34The clone site:
1:35fraudsters copy a real supplier's profile onto a lookalike website
1:40outside Alibaba's own domain,
1:44then redirect your payment to themselves.
1:46And the intellectual property trap:
1:49a supplier you pay to develop a custom design later sells that same design to
1:54your competitors.
1:57To verify a supplier before you pay:
2:00confirm the Verified Supplier badge,
2:02and read their transaction history and buyer reviews, not just the star rating.
2:08Ask for their business licence,
2:10and check that the name matches the bank account you would be paying.
2:15Ask for a live video call of the factory floor, not just recorded footage.
2:21Always order and inspect a paid sample before a bulk order.
2:25For larger orders, commission an independent factory audit.
